Hundreds of old people and orphans once found shelter here in the Old Men and Women House of the Evangelical Lutheran Diaconia.
In the period rooms, where regents and regentesses were in charge of the day-to-day management, the rich art collection tells the story of the Lutheran Congregation in Amsterdam and the Netherlands.
The Luther Museum Amsterdam , the former name was Luther Collection Amsterdam , is a museum that wants to introduce the public to Lutheranism in the Netherlands and Amsterdam, the role of the Wittenberg as an administrative center and the works of the diaconate in the past and present, with a collection of art and historical objects related to Lutheranism. It has been brought together in the regents' rooms of the Wittenberg building, located on the Nieuwe Keizersgracht in Amsterdam. Here, Luther's heritage is managed, exhibited and preserved for the future.
It is not necessary to reserve a time slot to visit this location with your City Card. Make sure that your City Card is valid at the time of your visit.
To enter the museum, it is necessary to go up a natural stone staircase. This unfortunately makes the museum less accessible for visitors with physical disabilities. However, there is a lift that is big enough for a transport wheelchair. If you want to use this lift, you can ring the bell at the garden gate. Then one of the volunteers will come and assist you. You can also contact them in advance at +31(0)20-2142112 or at info@luthermuseum.nl. Inside the museum, however, everything is accessible for visitors with physical disabilities. The museum itself also has a wheelchair. For more information, please visit the website
